Thread gages

GO, and NOGO sections are frequently attached to thread plug gages like the 17025 Certified Thread Gage, which is utilised for internal threaded product testing. The GO portion is longer and, in larger sizes, features a chip groove for simple cleaning to distinguish it from the other. The GO portion will completely thread onto nuts within tolerance with little effort.

Before binding up, the NOGO portion will fail to engage a "good" part for more than three complete revolutions. The GO test demonstrates that a component's hole is large enough to accommodate its matching shaft without causing excessive stress. The hole is small enough to allow for a strong, tight fit when it fails the NOGO test. Both of these conditions must be satisfied for a hole or nut to fall within the specified tolerance.

Ring cages

On the other hand, Ring Gages measure the precision of externally threaded components with ring gages. Along with the ring, solid ring gages, calibrated to a specific thread set plug or master, are required to determine the thread pitch and diameter acceptability. When the bolt threads completely through the GO ring but engage the NOGO ring by fewer than three revolutions, it is considered to be within tolerance.

Setting (Master) Gages

Due to their precise tolerances, master gages, in contrast to "working" plug and ring gages, are not intended for use in direct part testing. Instead, they calibrate brand-new rings, plug gages, and check their accuracy regularly throughout their useful lives.

Styles of Plug Gages
